Drone America supported an evacuation event held at Incline Village, Nev. The “Mill Creek Evacuation Drill,” was hosted by The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, Washoe County Emergency Management, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, IVGID and cooperating agencies. During the event, Drone America displayed several systems that are specifically designed to support first responders in the event of an emergency such as the “Mill Creek Evacuation Drill.”

Recently, the FAA approved and authorized a Certificate of Authorization (COA) for Washoe County Emergency Services and Homeland Security Program. The COA enables researchers and first responders to operate Drone America’s DAx8 multi-rotor Small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS).

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) have numerous uses when it comes to supporting first responders. In an evacuation, an UAS can provide an ability monitor a fire, provide an airborne communications relay together with electro optical and infrared EO/IR cameras and assist in search and rescue missions. In certain cases they can be used to deliver lifesaving medical supplies, even equipment such as an Automated External Defribulator (AED). Drone America manufactures airframes, integrates sensors, payloads and technologies providing a turnkey solution to the end user.

“Our work with first responders will enable us to evolve and enhance the capabilities of our drones,” said Mike Richards, President and CEO of Drone America. “Teaming with Washoe County and emergency services will have a very positive impact on Drone America’s future designs and capabilities. Success here will be exported throughout the world changing perceptions, pioneering and opening new markets and saving lives.”
